The winds were gusting to 40 miles per hour with intermittent rain this past Saturday as we drove to the Edgewater hotel on the Seattle waterfront. When she answered the door, Erin and I were face to face with a women that surely deserves the title of world most laid back bride.

The plans to shoot outdoors? "We don't need to do that. Let's improvise" Katie was the picture of poise throughout the day. It was so refreshing to watch her as she just let her day unfold how it may. And it was clear that she enjoyed every second of it.

Katie and Nick were married at the University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. Afterwards, they were whisked away to their reception at the Columbia Tower Club in a white Bentley. They took the scenic route and we met them at the top of Queen Anne at Kerry Park for a few shots overlooking Seattle just after sunset.

Katie and Nick soaked in every minute they had to celebrate with their guests, staying until it all ended just after midnight.

Congratulations to both of you! Erin and I can't overstate how much we enjoyed sharing your day with you and truly appreciate the trust you extended to us in letting us photograph your wedding.

We met Kristin and Erik last year while photographing Dave and Kerry's wedding. Kristin and Erik were such a great couple to work with. They've taken this last year to plan their wedding and it couldn't have been a more perfect day! We wish you all the joys & surprises that a new marriage brings. Congratulations you two!!

Eileen and Kelly's Wedding

Erin and I had the pleasure of shooting Eileen and Kelly's wedding on Friday, July 11th. They were married at Swans Trail Farms in Snohomish. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day or location for the two of them to celebrate with their friends and family.

Little League Day at the Mariners Game

Today is the day that thousands of little leaguer's and their families descend on Safeco field to watch the Mariners. Last year we missed it because we were vacationing in Florida and the year before that we didn't take the kids on the 'parade' around the field. So this year, we got an early start, picked up my mom in Bellevue and headed over to the stadium an hour before the game so that the kids would have a chance to walk around the outside of the field. I've got to say that even for big kids, the scale of the place is impressive. I couldn't imagine hitting a ball more than 400' and I certainly couldn't come close to fielding a ball and throwing it from the back wall into the infield.

And you know that I can't go anywhere without my camera, so here are a few shots of the kids with a bunch more here (or click on the pictures below).

I couldn't choose from all of the great shots of Cole, so I posted several. He had a great time and promptly crashed on the way home.

It was cool to see Ian hanging out with his friends. He is quite the ham; talking non-stop, telling jokes, and having a great time.

Here's Nathan without his coat. It could be 20 degrees and he'll refuse to wear a coat. We got stuck in the food line for the better part of an hour and the wind chill was kind of bad given the fact that the little league block seats are in the nose bleeds (not that I'm complaining or anything). He was shivering pretty badly by the time we got back to our seats. But he still didn't want his coat. No idea whom he inherited the stubborn gene from ;-)

Nathan's First Communion - May 17, 2008

Last week, Erin's folks and my sister Kate flew in to town from Ohio and San Diego respectively to celebrate Nathan's first communion this past Saturday. The weather was incredible albeit a bit hot (close to 90 degrees). After a couple of baseball games in the morning, the boys dressed up and allowed me to get some pictures of them looking like they are little adults. After the 5PM mass, we drove to Bellevue for a dinner celebration which lasted until almost 10:00 PM. The boys were pretty beat by the time we got home, but we still managed to get rolling at a decent time Sunday. The kids woke us up at 6:30 this morning to point out that it was snowing. As ready as I am for the warm temperatures to return, the snowfall this morning was beautiful, so I couldn't resist grabbing the camera and taking a bunch of shots.

What a Saturday evening! Erin and I had the pleasure of shooting an engagement session with David and Kerry in advance of their July 7th wedding!

The weather has really not been cooperating the past couple of weekends so we postponed the session a couple of times hoping for nice weather. So Saturday arrived and the weather forecast was of course calling for rain, but we were out of time with the wedding two weeks away, so we were prepared to make the best of it.

We arrived at the park and as we approached the falls, a rainbow appeared! Talk about God shining down on you! It seriously couldn't have happened to a nicer couple. It is always a joy to work with people that are so visibly in love.

This past Wednesday I shot a portrait session for Sidney who recently turned 1 year old.

After a few indoor shots (I loved how her orange dress looked against the green fabric), we moved outdoors. Kids like Sidney make my job a cake walk. She's about as cute as they come :-)

I love my Zune and have shelved my iPod, but not for the reasons you might suspect...

Yes, I work at Microsoft, but I have now had my video iPod for a year and a half and love it. The Zune came out and I wasn't in line to buy one. Why should I? I had everything I wanted with my iPod. At least that what I thought....

Then a job opportunity emerged in the Zune org, so I decided that I had better buy one and at least develop some opinions on it. I didn't care for the fact that the hard drive was 1/2 the size of my 60GB iPod. I didn't care for portions of the overall experience of the Zune player (but know that realistically, the software will just get better over time). What I LOVE about the Zune however, is the Zune Pass for marketplace.

Let me qualify this a bit. I HATE digital rights management (DRM). I've had all kinds of problems with it in the past and as a result, all of the music that I have downloaded to the Zune and iPod was music I ripped from my CD collection. At the same time, there are services out there that allow you to subscribe for a monthly fee and download and listen to all the music you want. These services use DRM to basically insure that you are still a paying member of the service. I have always ignored these services assuming that they would only have a small library of old artists that no ones cares about any longer, but when I bought my Zune, they offered me a free trial of the marketplace subscription. I'm now in my second month as a paying customer and couldn't be happier. I've been discovering all kinds of new artists and staying abreast of all of the latest music to hit the airwaves. Today I found the new single Tarantula from the Smashing Pumpkins. I liked it so much that I bought the single even though I can listen to it as much as I'd like as long as I'm a member. Downside? I realized after purchasing the song that it is DRMd (grrrr).

Steve Jobs makes the argument that "customers don't seem to be interested in it" [subscription services]. I couldn't disagree more, but then again if you had asked me 3 months ago, I would have concurred. My request is that we should keep DRM limited to the subscription services and then like Apple, charge a bit higher of a fee to purchase songs or albums without DRM restrictions. I would use the subscription service to discover music and then purchase the music that I want to "keep" over the long haul. If Microsoft can add this feature (non-DRM'd music purchases) to their marketplace, I think they have a service that trumps iTunes.

Jott rocks! You've got to try this free service

Go to Jott, set up a free account (only takes a minute), add their toll free number to the speed dial of your mobile phone.

Next time you need to remember to do something, you hit the Jott speed dial number and leave yourself a message. The Jott service converts your speech to text and sends you an email or SMS message with the text (as well as a recording of your original message). In addition, the Jott website keeps all of your Jott's listed and you can organize them.

But wait, there's more. You can import your contacts, so that you can Jott other people too. And the icing is that this is a local Seattle company started by a couple of ex-Microsoft folks and the current plan is to keep the service free (using Ad funding or premium service model).

I hope these guys shoot the moon with this product.

Full moon over Seattle May 31st 2007

I met up with my sister and some friends from work last night at Kerry Park in Seattle to watch and photograph the full moon rising over Seattle.

I snapped this shot when I arrived at around 9:00 PM. Click on the picture for the full resolution photo.

I also took this panorama while waiting for the moon to appear.

Here's a shot of the moon which finally appeared as it was approach 10:00 PM.

Next time I'll have to bring one of my telephoto's so I can grab a few tight shots of the moon in focus with the needle. These were all taken with my wide angle 17-55mm and my Nikon D2x.

One last dip at the Destin beach before flying back to Seattle

Our flight back to Seattle on Thursday didn't leave until 6:00 PM, so we took the opportunity to spend the morning at the beach before packing up for our journey home.

We had an amazing time and want to thank everyone for contributing to the great memories we now have. And to think it's not even Summer time yet ;-)

A night out at the Zimmermann's Baytowne Wharf condo

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Erin and I were treated to a night at the condo without kids which was a huge treat.

We ate, drank and shopped all day and into the evening when we met up with Matt and Sarah for appetizers and live music at Poppy's.

Erin and I broke away for a romantic dinner at Bistro Bijoux and then met back up with Matt and Sarah to take some pictures before calling it a night.

Another Day at the Beach in Destin (Monday May 21st, 2007)

Saturday was a busy day. After we went to the beach in the morning we spent the afternoon at the Zimmermann's celebrating Steve's graduation. They had a great party with tons of things to do. The kids and adults enjoyed their batting cage where I was reminded why I didn't play baseball in high school :-)

After church on Sunday, Steve had a cookout for the family (numbering more than 20 people) at their condo at the Baytowne Wharf in San Destin. We cooked out and soaked in the sun at the pool and I gave the camera a rest for the day. Okay, I actually forgot it but you'd never know it unless I pointed it out..... But don't despair; the cousins and grandparents watched our kids later in the week so that Erin and I could have a night alone in the condo and we got lot's of great pics.

On Monday morning, we were back at the beach and I've posted a bunch of pics from the day. As always, click HERE or on any of the pictures to launch a slide show and enjoy!

Day 1 in Destin = Beach + Steve's graduation Party

Here's a shot of Nathan running down the beach. I had to look twice when I opened this picture up on the computer. Is it just me or does Nathan suddenly seem much taller?

And a shot of Ian....well I'm not sure what he's doing, but that's the beauty of the beach. Just mindless fun in the sun, although you'd think he'd be board of the sun with as much as we get in Seattle.

And finally, here's one of Cole and Grandpa enjoying the surf. I think in this picture Cole is educating Grandpa on the finer points of beach preservation.

After lunch, we packed it in and headed over to Steve's house for Stevie's graduation party. I think the highlight was the batting cage that they set up in their backyard. I was never much of a ball player in school. I think the fastest ball I hit was only going 50 some mph.

Off to Destin Florida for Part II of our Adventure

After breakfast at Ohana's, we set out to drive the 6 1/2 hours from Orlando to Destin, home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Erin's entire family was converging on Destin where Mom and Dad were visiting Erin's brother Steve and his family.

The plan was to show up at Steve's beach house at 6PM while mom and dad were at the restaurant. They planned to have dessert back at the beach house with Matt, Sarah, Steve, Cindy and the kids. She didn't know that Bekah, Phil, Erin, me and our respective families have flown/drove in to be with her on her birthday.

Everything went off without a hitch and kicked off what would be another fantastic week in paradise!

Time to leave Disney - One last breakfast before our departure

What an amazing trip to Disney! BTW, a big part of the reason we had such a great time at Disney is because of all of the great work that our travel agent, Joann McGarvey with MouseEarVacation.com, did behind the scenes. Erin and I didn't have the faintest idea where to start when planning our vacation and Joann took care of just about everything for us, including getting our rental car set up so that it was a breeze leaving the hotel for our six hour car ride to Destin. If you are going to Disney, you should contact her.

Joann had scheduled breakfast with Lilo, Stitch and friends at Ohana's for our last morning which worked out great. I took a shuttle to pick up the rental car just before breakfast while Erin finished packing.

Over breakfast, we told the kids about our next adventure, to visit their cousins in Destin and to surprise grandma on her 65th birthday. This is definitely the way to go. Since the kids didn't know that they were going to see their cousins while they were in Disney, the nagging was reduced to almost zero. I'm sold on making all future vacations surprises. It takes so much stress out of the equation.

After breakfast we took some last pictures to remember our trip before departing to Destin for mom's surprise party. As you can see, Cole was finished cooperating :-)

Day 5 Back to Magic Kingdom one last time

We spent the last day back at Magic Kingdom. It gave us the chance to go back to some of the kids favorite rides and hit the ones that we weren't able to see on our first day.

Erin and I would often have to take turns watching Cole while the others went on some of the bigger rides, but it gave both of us ample opportunities to photograph Cole. I especially like this one...

We capped off the day with a Thanksgiving feast served family style at the Liberty Tree Tavern where the kids were again treated to a number of Disney characters at the table.

Ian was especially happy because he wanted to see Chip and Dale again and had been talking about it all week.
